About
the college
St. Stephen's college is located at Pathanapuram, a hilly town
bordering the dense forets of Western Ghats in the district of
Kollam, Kerala State. The area has a predominantly agri- based
economy and there are virtually no major industries or factories
here. The Institution founded in 1964 is a dream -cum - true of
late His Grace Mar Thoma Dionysius, whose objective was to improve
the cultural condition of the people in this remote backward area.
The sprawling campus of the college situated on a hilltop, by
name Maloor, Pattazy Vadakkekara. Panchayath is an environmentally
beautiful setting .The river "Pattazi" is only a stone's
threw distance from the college. This panchayath being the most
backward area of district cannot even boast of having a Government
institution other than the Village office Public health centre
and Lower Primary school. Even a branch of a Nationalised Bank
lacking in this area, which is enough proof to highlight its backwardness
and remoteness. It is in this background that the late His Grace
Mar Thoma Dionysius, founder of St.Stephen's College, wanted to
develop the institution in to a "Centre of Excellence"
with Agriculture studies as its backbone. After the sad demise
of the founder bishop in 1971, the present manager has been instrumental
in having the college upgraded to this present position and thus
in the process of fulfilling its founders dream.
The
College was declared open by His Holiness Mar Beselios Augen 1

its present site , in the serene village of Maloor, 6 Km. away
from Pathanapuram. The College was upgraded in 1978 and now offers
Degree and Post graduate courses.
